We expect the climate denial and the race-baiting. But what was surprising was the sheer stupidity of some of the candidates' assertions at CPAC.

It’s not every day that one gets to hear the Republican Party’s top three presidential candidates deliver speeches to the same audience on the same day. The second day of the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington offered a unique opportunity to compare and contrast the rhetoric trotted out to the most far-right wing of what is already a right-wing party.

We expected the race-baiting, as when former House Speaker Newt Gingrich reprised his reference to President Barack Obama as the prime purveyor of food stamps. And it came as no surprise to hear former U.S. senator Rick Santorum bash the science of climate change. Nor were we shocked to hear former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney promise to fire federal workers, given the Koch-led attack on public employees that has characterized the Republican agenda since 2010. But what was surprising was the sheer stupidity of some of the candidates’ assertions. Read more;

Two or three weeks ago I thought Obama had to be concerned that the economy at least be on the road to recovery in order to win in 2012. Now I'm not so sure about that.

It's beginning to look like Obama doesn't really have to be concerned about anything in order to win in 2012, ........ because he isn't going to be running against anybody. Al least anybody that has a snowballs chance in hell of beating him.

If Mitt Romney, the so called ultimate winner of the GOP primary, can't get a leg up on these two nit-wits, and pull the GOP into a cohesive resemblance of a political party, what chance does he have of defeating a clever, astute political adversary such as Barack Obama.

Keep in mind, Barack Obama outwitted the Clintons in the '08 Democratic primary, and then against all odds, being the first Black major party candidate for president of the United States, (with a little help from Sarah Palin), defeated John McCain and the Republican Party to become the first Black president.

AlterNets Adele Stan has given us an idea of just what the GOP is offering up as competition against Obama. If your a Right Winger you better take a deep breath, because it looks like your in for another 5 years of Barack Obama.

I'm not surprised with any of the stupid things the Repub candidates say. They keep saying these stupid things because their functionally-illiterate minded constituents are not bright enough to know the difference between them telling the truth or a lie. Don't forget, the candidates themselves are also a part of their constituency.

And the Repub candidates have become so incompetently and mentally lazy, they don't even think before they speak anymore. Stupid is as stupid does. Electing anyone of them POTUS would be more stupid than the things they actually say.

Don't underestimate the American voter in the stupid department, we did re-elect George W.,..... Michele Bachmann has been sent to Congress 3 times, and Rick Perry has won 3 races in Texas.

Of course Bachmann is from Minnesota, the State that elected Jesse Ventura Governor, and Texas is, well ...... Texas.

But what's our excuse for electing George W. Bush .... twice?

Like you said "Stupid is as stupid does."

The stupidest thing all the GOP candidates do is Open Their Mouths.

The one most stupidest thing the entire gop field, those still present, those that have fallen by the wayside, has to be; I'm so-n-so. and i'm running for the President of the United States of America. That was the beginning of what's happening now.

The saddest part of all this is, there are people out there who actually think and believe the ridiculous things being said by these "candidates" is true, or has any validity at all.....

We all expect anyone in front of microphones asnd TV cameras to make flubs or misspeak at times, but this bunch revels in them. It's the celebration of ideological bankruptcy and intellectual disconnect with every word.

On one hand, it's embarrassing to see a once proud political party destroy itself from within, with it's eyes wide open, but on the other, they have only themselves to blame, for clinging so tightly to failed policies and abject refusal to advance with the rest of the country.

The teabags will be historically seen as the engine of the GOP's fall into irrelevancy.

Say it monkey! Well put! They should be splitting into 3 parts soon. The old corporate rinos, the

Ron Paul libertarians, and the fearful, freaked out social conservative religious extremists. Surely

they don't think they a chance in hell of winning. This delusion will end for them in Nov. I hate to

    see the aftermath.
