Bill Maher: What Is it About Obama That Makes Republicans Go Ape@!$%# to His Face? (Hint: Racism)

On Friday night's [2/17/12]  Real Time, Bill Maher talked about the difference between Maher slinging insults at George W. Bush ("President Larry the Cable Guy," "the cowboy from Toy Story," etc.) and Republicans "going ape@!$%#" on Obama (think Jan Brewer sticking her finger in Obama's face on the tarmac recently and Joe Wilson yelling "You lie!" in the president's presence). That difference is: Maher says he would never have said those things to President Bush's face, but for some reason Republicans feel ok doing just that to Obama. Maher calls racism, noting that "Obama's had to be the Jackie Robinson of American politics -- never reacting to the taunts from the stands."

Is it Obama, or has the Radical segment of the Republican Party become simply obnoxious and downright disrespectful of everyone and anything they do not agree with?

I mean, look at some of the rhetoric that goes on right here on the Vine. And if you think that's bad, take a look at the comment threads of the unmonitored sites.

The Right Wingers, when they're accused of abusive rhetoric will always respond with ..... "well you do it too", like the 8th grade girls Maher refers to in his monologue. But, they're right, the Left Wingers do often go on obnoxious rants, but it is almost always in response to some nasty comment made by a Right Winger.

For some reason, although both sides do often get into some heavy duty muckracking, it seems to me that you see much more of it from the Right. But don't tell them about it or they'll go ape@!$%# on you.

I've always thought two strong party's were good for our country, what we have now is one trying to work issues and one evading anything that is constructive and if all you have is a negative you can't build a dialogue to a working solution.

You don't think it's sad that he's "had" to be the Jackie Robinson of politics, more than 60 years after Jackie Robinson had to be the Jackie Robinson of baseball?

I blame it on the kind of trash the teabaggers elect to public office. They want someone who "speaks for them", but unfortunately they have no understanding that when their emissaries have the manners and dignity of pigs, that it reflects their values and intelligence. It's certain that they won't be reading this, afterall it is reading, but my apologies go out to any pigs who may resent the comparison.

Sure, it's got to be racism? I mean just because Obama proved himself to be the worthless, incompetent jackass we expected -- what ground is that for criticizing the Annointed One?

To those millions of Obamabots -- all I can say is this: Pull your heads out of your backsides and give Obama a resounding DEFEAT in November. No, friends. It is NOT RACISM to want our country to be rid of this presidential failure!

What? Just what are you giving Obama credit for? I mean when I attended civics class -- I recall being told CONGRESS enacted the necessary legislation. The two wars our late and unlamented Village Idiot (a.k.a. George W. Bush) messed up our economy. Along with the Democrats who had control of BOTH Houses of Congress --- refusing to reign in Wall Street and Big Business. You want to apportion blame -- Let's try a bit of HONESTY when you do.

My calling that Kenyan Village Idiot "the annointed one" is because the damned news media was pushing Obama at us from the minute he won his Senatorial seat -- as America's First Black Prez. Of course I despise Obama fully as much as George W. -- Neither one was worth a bucket of warm cow manure as president.

I predict on Election Day, Obama is NOT going to have the cakewalk for a second term you liberals expect and hope for. Liberals tend to forget the obvious -- that Obama owed his win to one key fact: That the opposition was the McCain-Palin combo. That voting Obama in was pretty much trying to pick the better of two impossibly bad choices.

Any further comments, Jim420 -- or do you want to revert back to your racism fairy tale?

Why is it that the Tea Party demagogues always appear on Newsvine with screen names like.....

      • TheTruthOnly
      • RealFacts
      • Americanpatriot12
      • etc.

They seem desperate to validate their own credibility with some assertion that they are the sole voice of truth through their screen name. As if that alone confers superiority. Every time I see one of these presumptive screen names I get a chuckle.

On the other side, are people with screen names like Jim420 or Donna3465. Just names that aren't trying to convey some sense of more patriotic, or more factual, or more truthful than thou.

And the grandiose screen names are almost always tied to "conservative" minds.

      I wonder why?

you never left the racism behind..... you want to try again.??

either Shrub is to blame or the GOP congress, the Dems have worked to fix things they screwed up, and have been hindered by the GOP every step of the way...

Mofongo, I have noticed the same trend you pointed out. They then get nasty on their re-reg names. My thought is they erroneously think they are the last bastion of patriotism or that's all they have, i.e. no brains.

Because of the old truism on "patriotism" and who it is ALWAYS the final refuge of.

I find it's ALWAYS the flagwavers who are the least knowledgeable about the thing they think they are so "patriotic" about.

ryoushi12, true. I made a joke once on a thread about how President Obama bashers should take all the bull@!$%# one liners and number them so as to save keystrokes when they comment. Like 'Obama is a Marxist' could be #1 and so forth. All they had to type was #1 and we would know what they meant. The bashers did not think much of it.

If Obama is a patsy, I'm sure you can direct us to credible evidence about who is really in charge and will benefit from the destruction of America

I am interested in how you reacted to Grocer Norquist saying we don't need a President who can think. We only need one with 5 working fingers to sign conservative legislation sent by a Republican dominated Congress. As a Republican do you agree this is the kind of President America needs?

Ya know, righty politicians do seem a whole lot indignant these days. It's one thing for the right, left, and middle to blog away at each other but a whole other thing for a Senator, Governor, etc... to disrespect a President to his (or Pres. Warren in 2016, her) face.

You'd think leaders would know better.

Now, to be fair, Bush did get a pair of shoes thrown at him.

But, seriously...I agree with Bill Maher. It IS racism. "That black man is going to have the law laid down to him," mentality from the right has been rearing its ugly head since Obama was elected president. Bush outright lied to the American people about WMDs and many in congress knew it, but no one shouted on national television to him, "you lie!" This president has been the most disrespected I've ever seen and the one striking difference he has from all the others is simply, the color of his skin.

Obama said it himself to NPR. He don't like the bill of rights he wants a bill of goodies from his stash. And nowhere doesn't even wanna.create new taxpayers. Block dat sperm block dat sperm!! Don't wanna be "punished" with a baby" again the great ones words.
I'll take bush's 4% unemployment and 4 wars and booming housing market anyday over this cat. It only fell when it looked like this guy was gonna be elected.

          He's black.

As Mahar correctly pointed out, vehement disagreement with the President over policy is nothing new. What is unprecedented is the manner of expression. What compels a congressman to interrupt a Presidential Address to a joint session of Congress for the first time in history, or condescendingly wag a gnarled up finger in his face and then claim she was intimidated?

If republicans don't want the race card being played, then republicans should stop dealing it.

What makes rank and file rightists excoriate Obama for not doing things they didn't want him to do in the first place? That's real hate.
